Our featured cat for The River's Purrfect Friday: Siouxie

Here's what Dr. Jen had to say about Siouxie:

When I first laid eyes on this breath-taking beauty in September of 2012, I knew that I had to come up with a unique name for her, as her looks were so striking and one-of-a-kind. Though she is boisterous and brash in typical tortoiseshell fashion, Siouxie is atypical in her coloring and markings, making her all the more eye-catching! Born in the fall of 2009, she ended up a pregnant stray over in Ferndale cared for by Joan Silvi and her husband. Her future became very uncertain when she tested positive for FIV though, and Joan discovered just how difficult it is to re-home a cat with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus; luckily she found us and we were able to ease her worries and offer her a place to go. FIV isn't a death sentence, nor should it deter suitable adopters from taking a positive cat into their home, but when you do have a cat with a strong personality like Siouxie here, it can make things more challenging. Since the virus is transmitted by bite wounds, it is imperative that fighting will not occur between felines in the household. And since our good-looking girl here is a bit grumpy at times around other cats, well, it wasn't a risk that Joan was able to take by keeping her.
Now that she has settled in and gotten accustomed to how things run at Big Sid's, I think she is really enjoying herself. I know she adores all of the attention she gets, as you can't walk by her and not stop to pet her pretty little face. I am grateful that our sanctuary provides these cats a place to go who otherwise would be euthanized. It isn't Siouxie's fault that she was allowed to get into trouble; idiotic so-called owners let her down by letting her out, and now she has to face the consequences. Although we couldn't control what happened to her in the past, we can control what happens to her in the here and now, and now that she is a Big Sid's Kid, she will have the happiest of days and the coziest of nights. Siouxie is our little banshee and we love her to pieces!
