Our featured cat for The River's Purrfect Friday: Rachel

Here's what Dr. Jen had to say about Rachel:

Back on November 11, 2002, this gorgeous gal came into our rescue as one of its very first, after having been found broken and bedraggled, sopping wet and freezing cold, in the window well of a building. Weighing only 4 pounds dripping wet, darling Rachel suffered a broken left rear leg and neglect so crippling, when she fell into that precarious place, she had no way out... until a good Samaritan heard her beckoning call and got down on his hands and knees in the soggy grass to retrieve her. We fattened and fixed her up in no time, and within weeks, she had landed herself in another position, but this time, it was in the loving, welcoming arms of Jerry Noffsinger who took our little lady home with him.
Rachel and Jerry lived together, side by side, for over 8 wonderful years, until sadly this January, 2011, Jerry passed away from cancer. When I heard the shocking news, I contacted his sister, who was caring for Rachel for a short time, but had nowhere for her to go permanently; she quickly took me up on my offer to take Rachel back into Crash's. Needing a few days to let her family members say goodbye, we took her back in on February 17th. Having had the pleasure of being Rachel's veterinarian over the years, it was a gentle homecoming for a girl who had been through so much, and who was about to have her world turned upside down once again. But, with the grace and guidance of my absolutely fabulous volunteers, Rachel returned to her former home and settled in quite nicely.
Initially a bit shy and reserved, once she warms up to you Rachel is the one asking for your time and silky stroking of your fingers through her beautiful fur. And how does she enjoy the company of other kitties, which delighted me, as she was only kitty for so long, that I anticipated sharing quarters with so many other fur balls may have bothered her a bit... but it didn't after a few days of interaction and companionship. I was told by Jerry's sisters that this girl adored older men, but wasn't too keen on small children. She was fine with all of the women that doted on her in those final days before we took her back, but they said her heart definitely belonged to her man, so that is what we intend to do: not to replace her wonderful owner, but to carry on his legacy by finding someone like him to once again scoop her up in his arms and take her home. Kinda sounds like a bad, but good, romance novel doesn't' it?? We want a happy ending for our lovely Rachel!
