Our featured cat for The River's Purrfect Friday: Jaspurr McFurrowbrow

Here's what Dr. Jen had to say about Jaspurr McFurrowbrow:

When Michelle Hoey-Heath stumbled across this bedraggled cat outside of her mom's house in EGR, she couldn't believe her eyes, as this poor cat looked like something that who knows what dragged in! The pictures don't do it justice, and they were taken after he had had many medicated baths, steroids, antibiotics and the like... but believe me, he was in BAD shape! Scaly and scabby, inflamed and raw, bald and beside himself with pain and pruritis (itching) this guy still had the gumption to purr and wanted to be stroked, snuggled and loved up - amazing!
So I went to work: culturing his skin for a fungal infection, scraping for mange mites, swabbing for other external parasites and yeast, and treating for it all, just to cover our bases! Within 24 hours he was already looking (and feeling, more importantly) 100% better, and was eating up a storm! Born sometime in late 2005, Jaspurr McFurrowbrow (his full name) sure had been through tougher times than I think you and I can imagine, being an intact male out fending for himself, and not doing so well unfortunately. Skinny as a rail with virtually no meat on a frame that can carry a much larger cat, I am pleased as punch that his appetite and attitude are as good as they are; if I were in his condition, I am sure I would be a royal pain in the patootie!
To top it all off, the poor guy tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), but luckily for him, we had room for one more kitty in need - and boy did he need us! Jaspurr is now in excellent shape: he has filled out nicely and his fur has grown back in, making him a *very* handsome cat. He gets along well with the other cats at Big Sid's Sanctuary, but would love to have a home and a lap to call his own.
Thanks to Michelle and her mom for NOT looking the other way - when I am sure many folks would have - but instead seeing a creature in need, and coming to his rescue! We love ya!
