Our featured cat for The River's Purrfect Friday: André
Here's what Dr. Jen had to say about André:
We aren't quite sure where FIV-positive André came from, but when this gentle soul showed up on our doorstep at the end of January 2008, we were absolutely thrilled to be able to get him off the streets. He was intact, which is a huge no-no for FIV guys, as fighting and mating are the two most common ways to transmit the virus. André is a gentle soul and likely a victim of circumstances beyond his control - such is the case with so many abandoned cats out there.
From the minute we brought André into our sanctuary, he was home, fitting in like he had always been one of the Big Sid's Kids. We think he was born around January of 2005, but have no way of knowing for sure. (Gee, I wish they could talk - can you imagine the stories these guys could tell us?) Andre can be a bit reserved initially, but he is loving and affectionate when approached. He relishes human company and contact and, though he is the type to sit back on the sidelines and observe what is going on, he is going to make a wonderful, mellow companion to a family willing to give a nice guy a try! Since he is not a biter, it is not a risk to bring him into a household with other cats, as the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus can only be transmitted though a deep bite wound. And I can tell you for an absolute fact that André would be so thrilled to actually have a home to call his own!
